The Cat Webcam was originally proposed in the winter of 2005/6, but delays in obtaining a broadband connection in this remote location, and a change of landlord meant that it was finally installed in November 2008 when David and Natalie Barnes became landlords. The original camera looked South-east towards Buxton.

When Ben and Rebecca took over the Cat in the autumn of 2009, the broadband router moved to the front of the building, out of wi-fi contact with the original webcam. So the webcam was moved to look North-west towards Manchester.

On a clear night you can see a vertical column of red lights above the lights of Manchester city centre. They are the lights of the Winterhill TV transmitter 34 miles away beyond Bolton.
