Motorists and outdoor activity enthusiasts will this week be able to check out the weather on top of the A537 Cat and Fiddle pass from the comfort of their desks.
Landlords of the Cat & Fiddle Inn, Ben and Rebecca have joined forces with local information website MaccInfo.com to host a webcam showing the A537 road and the view towards the west.
“In winter, a lot of people worry about the road conditions on the Cat and Fiddle pass, and we hope this camera will allow them to see for themselves just by logging onto www.cat-cam.co.uk. Walkers, cyclists and flyers can also see if the weather is promising for their sport too,” said Ben. "Sometimes it is the opposite of what you might expect. The Cat & Fiddle can be in sunshine, above the cloud, when the valleys are shrouded in mist".
The newly installed landlords, Ben and Rebecca, plan to develop this traditional English pub with welcoming open fires in winter, and incomparable views of the setting sun on summer’s evenings.
Set apart from its conventional dining room and lounge bar, the Cat & Fiddle caters separately for hill-walkers and cyclists in Moorland Bar. Here footwear isn’t a problem, and tea, coffee and snacks are available from 11.00 each day.
Ben is keen to use local Cheshire and Derbyshire produce in his new menu of home made dishes.
If you want an even better view over the Peak District hills, the Cat & Fiddle also serves as a base for helicopter flights. Families often buy a flight for Mum or Dad as a birthday present, and then they all come to watch, and then meet afterwards in our dining room for a family meal together.
