Eco Summit 2021

A Macctastic and Macclesfield Town Council event to explore a greener future for Macclesfield

15th May, 10am – 4pm, virtual event on Zoom, FREE

As Macclesfield begins to recover from the pandemic and faces the climate emergency, how can we develop a green vision for the town.

Macclesfield's very first Eco Summit was a day of talks and open discussions exploring topics such as climate change and biodiversity loss; how to encourage active travel and an integrated transport network; how green entrepreneurs are reducing the carbon footprint of businesses; and creating more and better green spaces in the town.

Speakers included Scoop & Scales co-founder Matt Todd, activist and Tytherington pupil Esther Bird, Russell Hope of zero emission delivery company eLov and Cllrs Suzie Akers Smith (Cycling and Walking Champion for Cheshire East Council) and Nick Mannion (Portfolio Holder Environment and Regeneration).

There were three 15 minute talks in the morning, followed by a choice of breakout rooms for discussion, with the same format in the afternoon. Each group shared ideas, talked about what we can do to make changes, and what’s holding us back.
